My internship at Tesla on the Engineering Tools team was a very interesting experience. My team deals with a lot of sensitive information since we support many infrastructure tools. We do EVERYTHING in house to be secure. All apps are in-house, all infrastruture is in-house, at this point Tesla can be a infrastructure company (jk we’re so understaffed). I use to think “why reinvent the wheel – every wheel – for everything across Tesla?” To which my mentor said, “because security.” And yes, if we can’t secure our artifacts on Artifactory, our design specs on Polarion, or general info on Jira, then we would lose our competitive advantage. Personally I also like security so yes, my mind has changed. I’m for in-house, on-premise solutions now. Which is why I will no longer be relying on 3rd party solutions for the following tools:
Inspired by my internship at tesla and their cool tools, I decided to make some of my own tools that I’ve seen and used, notably
